The morning can hold some of the day's loveliest company: familiar faces, a little music and everyone getting ready together. Begin your bridal and bridesmaid make-up plan with a list of people, locations and ready-by times. Ask the team to work out the staffing and order, allowing space for dressing, photographs and something to eat.
At your bridal trial, bring photographs of dress necklines, the veil and accessories. Describe the make-up you normally feel comfortable wearing and anything you would rather avoid. Look at the result in daylight and indoor light, and try sitting, walking and wearing the veil. Tell the artist about known product sensitivities and ask about products and tool hygiene. Seek appropriate healthcare advice for skin concerns; a make-up trial is not a medical assessment.
For bridesmaids, mothers or other relatives, ask what each person would enjoy wearing. Confirm who will do their hair and make-up, how much time each appointment needs, and whether lashes, accessories, early starts and travel are included. Check that the room has suitable chairs, light, power and space for bags, rather than assuming everyone can prepare at once.
Share touch-up and hairstyle-change times with the photographer and coordinator. Confirm who helps remove the veil, who keeps touch-up supplies after the artist leaves, and when hired accessories must be returned. Watch for group photographs or food service scheduled during a change of look. Clearing those clashes in advance leaves a quieter moment to take a breath and notice the people beside you.
Work backwards from when each person is needed
Give the make-up team the tea ceremony, photograph and entrance times so they can estimate staffing and appointments. Allow time afterwards for dressing, accessories and reaching the meeting point. Finishing hair and make-up is only one part of being ready to leave.
- One line per person: name or family title, hair and make-up requested, location, ready-by time and assigned artist.
- Two locations at once: ask the team to confirm staffing and travel if people prepare separately, so the same artist is not scheduled in two places.
- A change of look: who alerts the MC and photographer to hold the relevant activity? Who confirms that the next part can begin?
Hair and make-up are supplied by your chosen artists. Check the outfit and changing arrangements, then bring the timings into your running-order worksheet.
One small place to begin
Give the team each person’s location, requested service and ready-by time, then check the resulting plan against photographs and outfit changes.
These notes offer general planning guidance. Adapt them to your wedding, your family and the arrangements you agree with each team. Confirm what each service includes before booking.
